The Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri, the capital of Imo state has upheld the election of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu as the Senator representing Abia North senatorial district.
The Chief Whip of the Senate had approached the appellate court to set aside the ruling of the tribunal on 9th September which said his election was ‘invalid.’
In her ruling on Thursday, the Appeal court set aside the ruling of the tribunal stating that the case of the PDP and her candidate, Mao Ohuabunwa, couldn’t establish their case.
The ruling therefor nullifies the order of the tribunal which asked the INEC to conduct a supplementary election in a plethora of polling units.
Reacting to his victory, Senator Kalu wrote via his twitter account; “We emerged victorious at the appeal court today. I have nothing to say,other than to give God all the glory & to thank all our supporters for their perseverance through out this journey.
“The mandate of the people has once again been reassured.”
