In line with one of her cardinal objectives; ’empowerment’, The Maurice Akueme Foundation (MAF) has graduated the first set of her students trained in the art of sewing.
The event which took place at the Foundation’s training center in Calabar, the Cross River state capital saw about 10 persons trained in tailoring to enable them fend for themselves, which is one of the objectives of the foundation.
The National Coordinator/Director of Programmes of the foundation Hon. Mike CJ Madu (Gburuchi) in his opening speech extolled the foundation’s President Sir Maurice Emeka Akueme for coming through for the less privileged in the society, stressing that his generosity and philanthropy is uncommon.
He maintained that the Maurice Akueme Foundation is determined in her efforts to alleviate, palliate and empower the needy and less privileged in the society. He promised the graduating students that The Maurice Akueme Foundation (MAF) will continue to support them until they stand on their feet.
The welfare officer of the foundation, Lady Amaka Ozougwu in her remarks congratulated the graduating students and implored them to continue to pray for the Foundation’s president so God will continue to bless him with long life, good health and prosperity to enable him continue to touch lives.
Two of the graduating students Felix Bassey and Messiah Sunday Ekong thanked God for being among the beneficiaries and expressed their gratitude to MAF’s president, Sir Maurice Akueme. They stated that the foundation has indeed changed their lives for the better promising not to disappoint the Foundation. They also prayed for the continued growth of the foundation.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates and parting gifts (cash) to the graduating students.
The foundation also promised to support as many of them that shows seriousness in the trade with a sewing machine.
The training of the students lasted for 1 year at no cost on the students as the foundation shouldered the cost of the training.
