The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices through the IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre Enugu, has developed module in line with the tenets of community oriented policing which shall be focusing on the role of the community in guaranteeing a safe community for the girl child.
The National Coordinator of POCACOV CSP Ebere Amaraizu, said this became pertinent as the Girl Child has been subjected to some indecent work and situations in the community which has made them vulnerable and prone to cultism and other related vices which is counter productive to goal 8 of the Sustainable Development Goals of Decent Work and Economic Growth and that of Goal 11 of Sustainable Cities and communities.
According to him; “The need for the development of the module became necessary in view of various records of cases on the involvement of girl child in cultism as well as other vices.
“Girl child are subjected to unsafe environment where they are made to do indecent work like serving in a beer parlour, hawking at night at various parks and in some home as maidservant which places them on the risk of being vulnerable or prone to vices.
“Parents, caregivers as well as other relevant stakeholders need to rise to say No to all those activities that tends to expose Girl Child to becoming member of secret cult group and criminal gang as the Girl child will one day become a mother and what will the future look like when a would be mother in the nation is already a cultist and a member of a criminal gang.
“A safer community shall be focusing on an environment that is attractive and conducive for upbringing of a girl child devoid of exposing them to those factors that can subject them towards living indecently and joining of cult group or criminal gang.
“The Module developed by the IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu Pocacov Resource Centre Enugu is a wake up call and involves different stakeholders in line with the tenets of community oriented policing.
“It will also provide platform of sensitization and advocacy to provide a safe and Secure Community for the girl child, To Engage Girl Child and make them Challenge Unacceptable behaviour and attitude towards them with a view to making them develop respect for themselves and community, To Ensure that Girl Child remain in Education, actively learning, healthy and achieving potential.
“The Module is to further expose the antics in the cases affecting the Female Gender for the consciousness of the Girl Child which includes Sex For Admission, Sex For Grade in campuses, Sex For Employments amongst others which is gradually spreading its tentacles and the need to be a better girl child for a better tomorrow.
“Girl Child are oftentimes subjected to anti social behaviours by their peers as well as victimization and undue pressures by their parents, caregivers and guardians.
“All hands to be on deck by all and sundry in order to save the future of the girl child and the society at large in line with Goal 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by ensuring that our communities are safe and livable and where girl child can go about their daily activities without fear, risk of harm or injury.
“It is all about all relevant stakeholders coming together to ensure that various laws and enactment geared towards protecting the girl child’s right as well as the female gender are well implemented for a safe Girl Safer Community.
“To further achieve this, the IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre Enugu is extending its partnership with the federal ministry of women Affairs, United Nation Development Programme, Ministry of Gender and Social welfare, the Media, Development Partners, Governmental and Non Governmental Bodies, Ministry of youth and sports, Ministry of Education and other relevant Stakeholders,” Amaraizu said.
