The IGP M.A Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre Enugu has commenced the development of modules that will bring about smooth operation of POCACOV VOLUNTEER CLUB Scheme under the “Safer School Partnership Programme” in line with the community oriented policing tenets.
The National Coordinator of Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) CSP Ebere Amaraizu hinted that; “The POCACOV Volunteer Club will be in place in all the Schools and colleges in the country in partnership with the ministries of Education and Youth and Sports.
“It will be made up of school children/students with reputable character as well as school teachers and parents Teachers associations members acting as patron while the school resource persons made up of police officers with specialty in education and also POCACOV state coordinators will coordinate affairs for smooth and effective operations and to ensure that they operate within the aims and objectives of POCACOV.
POCACOV Volunteer Club shall also exist in the communities with its members drawn from amongst members of the public with sound record devoid of cultism, thuggery, associated vices, sexual and gender based violence and other vices.
“It will also use community oriented policing approach,” Amaraizu said.
POCACOV Volunteer Club is safer school and community partnership programme in line with the community oriented policing tenets and will be looking at the following;
  • To make the society safe and secured from cultism, thuggery, sexual and gender based violence, substance abuse and other vices
  • The Pocacov Volunteers will engage in aggressive campaign and sensitization against cultism, thuggery, associated violence, sexual and gender based violence, substance abuse, cyber crime and other vices
  • It will clearly stand out with the responsibilities of advocacy, sensitization, reorientation amongst others.

In addition, Amaraizu disclosed that; “The Club will try as much as possible to facilitate and prepare grounds for renouncing membership of cult and associated violent groups.

“The POCACOV Volunteer Club will try as much as possible to pull back the youths/students from the false sense of security which cult and associated violent groups claim to offer and serve as a link or platform between youths/students, communities, Parents Teachers Associations and various community leaders in line with the tenets of community oriented policing with a view to getting to the root of the matter and dealing with it headlong.

“The Club will continuously demystify those sources which suspected cultists,thugs regards as power like; possession of dangerous weapons, mob attacks, other violent acts,” Amaraizu concluded.
