The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), a community driven Programme in line with the Community Oriented policing tenets of the Nigeria police has perfected modalities through the IGP M.A Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre, Enugu on Community Based Action Group Programme (CBAGP) of the POCACOV Volunteer Club for safer School/Community Partnership.
The National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, disclosed that the Community Based Action Programme will revolve around sensitization and awareness creation as well reorientation of some selected community members under the POCACOV Volunteer Club scheme in the areas of Cultism, Sexual and Gender Based Violence, Substance Abuse, Thuggery, Violence, Sex for Employments, Sex For Admissions, Sex For Grades, Defilement, Rape as well as the use of Boy/Girl child to beg for alms and other illicit activities.
“POCACOV, working with Development Partners and support of Government and Non Governmental Organizations is looking at getting community members together by inducting them into POCACOV Volunteer Clubs for safer School/Community.
“They will will be trained and prepared to work with the Police, sister security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to obtain and share information for community safety and security,” Amaraizu said.
Continuing, the POCACOV National Coordinator said; “The training will be in line with train the trainers course for other members of their community which will cut across sensitizing children and youths, parents, guardians,
“There will also be community response team of the POCACOV volunteer club for sexual and gender based violence issues amongst others.
“This will be in full realization of Goal 11 (SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES) and Goal 16 (PEACE,JUSTICE AND STRONG INSTITUTIONS) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” Amaraizu concluded.
