The Centre Manager of the Enugu TAMAR Sexual Assault Referral Centre (TAMAR SARC), Evelyn Ngozi Onah has commended the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu for coming up with the Programme- Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) which is community driven and oriented to sensitize different stakeholders especially in the areas of Cultism, Sexual and Gender Based Violence like Defilement, Rape, Sex for admission, Sex For Employment, Sex for Grades and Marks ,the use of boy and girl child for begging of alms by some parents and Caregivers amongst other vices.

The Centre Manager made the commendation on Wednesday, 1st July, 2020 when she led her team members on a courtesy visit to the National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, at the IGP M.A Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre Enugu.

She stated that POCACOV has been on full scale sensitization, advocacy and awareness creation on cultism, Sexual and Gender Based Violence and other vices and requested for partnership and Collaborative efforts between TAMAR SARC and POCACOV.

She also pointed out that through POCACOV Programme, the Nigeria Police Force has proven that they actually need to work with different stakeholders to resolve issues of Cultism, Sexual and Gender Based Violence, Substance Abuse, Thuggery and Violence and other vices.

Responding, the National Coordinator POCACOV Csp Ebere Amaraizu, thanked the Centre Manager and team for the Visit to the IGP M.A Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre and assured them of their continued partnership with TAMAR SARC and Ministry of Gender Affairs for effective awareness creation, sensitizations, advocacy and re-orientation.

Amaraizu also disclosed that POCACOV is working out partnership modalities with the National Orientation Agency as well as the use of POCACOV Ambassadors under the POCACOV Volunteer Club of Safer School/Community Partnership for improved awareness and resolution of issues relating to cultism, sexual and gender based violence, substance abuse and other vices in the country.

“We are also x-raying the role of parents, caregivers, guardians, stakeholders, government and Non Governmental Bodies.

“POCACOV is also increasing the awareness on EVERY CHILD IS EVERYBODYS CHILD which used to be the strong African Tradition that enables Parents, Guardians, Caregivers and other Stakeholders to exercise child caring functions and responsibilities irrespective of whether they are their biological parents or not,” Amaraizu said.

The Highlight of the visit was the formal presentation of the Centre Manager of TAMAR SARC with various POCACOV campaign materials and magazines and interventions guide.
