The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has stated that as part of measures towards deepening the ongoing campaign against cultism and other vices across the country in order to save Nigerian Children and Youths from the Claws of Cultism and Other vices and thereby making our society safe and secured, shall be making use of Sports as a campaign tool which is also part of grass root campaign Mechanism of strategic Communications.
According to the National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, we shall be working with different stakeholders and galvanizing their support in line with the community policing principles to ensure that the activity which is tagged “POCACOV ANTI VICE FOOTBALL MATCH” is used to support the campaign against cultism and other vices by repositioning the mind of young ones through football as well as other sporting activities, to encourage Nigerian Youths to channel their strenght and energy into useful venture that will guarantee them better and enviable positions in the society and to galvanize stakeholders support and reawaken the moral values of our youths in sports thereby discouraging them from drug/substance intake and discovering good role models.
Meanwhile, the former Captain of Rangers international football club of Enugu and an Ex Enyimba international FC, Sunshine FC Akure and Ex super Eagles National Team Player, John Nnam has joined hands for a succesful hosting of the match in Enugu tagged POCACOV/JOHN NNAM AND FRIENDS ANTI VICE FOOTBALL MATCH; the first of its kind in Enugu state and across the country.
The football activity which is awaiting the Lifting of the No Football activity occassioned by the Coronavirus pandemic will take place in a grandstyle to give strategic leadership direction to the youth, providing alternatives to them and help them understand the concept of role model in football.
Young ones need to know whom they are following as a role model in football in terms of his character, attitude,life style amongst others as this has variously ruined some young ones football carear.
According to John Nnam who also is a POCACOV Ambassador; “I am working with my friends who also played professional football to support pocacov in this activity to ensure we achieve this National Youth Rebirth on football and other sporting event.
“Most Youths as a result of what they see, believes that it is the right thing to take drug or alcohol before they play matches. Drug kills and destroys our system and we want to use this to preach against vices and also raise awareness because that is the aim of POCACOV.
