Co-Convener of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has fired at Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, for declaring his readiness to sign off on the death penalty slammed against a 22-year old musician, Yahaya Sharif following a court decision which ruled in favor of the capital punishment against the 22-year old.
Recall that Yahaya Sharif was sentenced to death by hanging by a Kano upper Sharia court sitting at Hausawa Filin Hockey for blaspheming the prophet of Islam in a song he circulated via WhatsApp in March, 2020.
Speaking at a gathering of religious leaders, legal practitioners, security personnel and government officials on Thursday, Ganduje had said that he will speedily sign off on the execution of Yahaya Sharif in line with the court ruling if he does not appeal the Sharia Court ruling that sentenced him to death by hanging on August 10.
Taking to her twitter handle, Yesufu said Ganduje should be executed for allegedly collecting bribe.
“Ganduje was caught on camera allegedly collecting bribe. In sharia law, any gift to public servant belongs to the state talkless of one caught collecting bribe.
“There is no immunity in sharia law. Ganduje should be the one sentenced to death not signing death warrant” Yesufu said in a tweet.
Yesufu however, is not the only person calling for Ganduje’s head. In the wake of the governor’s comment yesterday, Nigerians on various threads have hurled verbal attacks at Governor Ganduje, citing reference to the same incident where the governor was caught on camera clandestinely stuffing wads of foreign currency into the pockets of his babariga in what appeared to be the proceeds of financial malfeasance.
