Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People Democratic Party PDP, Senator Walid Jibrin, has declared the November 2021 Anambra governorship poll will determine the place of Igbo in national politics.
He said the party has all it takes to win the election while charging PDP leaders to begin grassroots mobilisation with immediate effect to make it a reality.
Jibrin spoke at the weekend during the grand reception by the Anambra Central Senatorial zone for PDP Anambra chairman, Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu.
But former Governor and 2019 PDP vice presidential candidate, Peter Obi as well as Senator Uche Ekwunife and Stella Oduah shunned the meeting.
No reason was given for their absence at the meeting attended by other PDP big wigs in the state.
Leading the seven governorship aspirants were Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, Hon Chris Azubogu, and Dr. Godwin Maduka.
Other notable PDP chieftains at the reception were Prof A B C Nwosu, Sen Ben Obi, all the PDP House of Representatives and Assembly members among others
Jibrin said the reception was another strategy to unite the party ahead of the governorship poll.
He said: “All hands must be on deck as the next year’s gubernatorial election in Anambra state will determine the future of the state and the fate of Ndi-Igbo in the Nigeria political structure.”
The PDP BoT Chairman highlighted the achievements of former Governor Obi and the needs for continuity.
He challenged members of the party to should see 2021 in Anambra as a major project.
Nwobu, expressed satisfaction over the unity of the party, assuring PDP would produce a Governor who would understand governance and care for Ndi Anambra and the growth of the state.
He told the national leadership the party under his watch would do everything legitimately possible to win the governorship poll.
