Rt. Hon. Chima Obieze, Member Representating Ezeagu Constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly has hailed the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the minority leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu for their efforts in the ongoing repair of the dilapidated famous Enugu/Onitsha express road.

Obieze, who’s the Chairman House Committee on Works, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development said that the palliative works been done on the road will ease traffic especially, during the festive period.

In a statement signed by him, Obieze decried the poor state of the road which is the responsibility of the Federal Government and called on the parties saddled with the responsibility of monitoring the project to do so effectively as the road is important to motorists and will help checkmate crimes being perpetrated in the area.

Obieze’s statement reads;

“On behalf of the good people of Ezeagu Constituency, I wish to deeply appreciate His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for working in colaboration with the Deputy Minority Leader of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu, to intervene on the Agu Abor/Ugwu-Onyeama/9th Mile Road.

“The road, though belongs to the Federal government, is very strategic to the people of Ezeagu as it’s the major route that leads to the LGA from Enugu city. The said road has been in a terribly shape for years now. The condition of the road has made it difficult if not impossible for vehicles to ply that route. The people of Udi, Ezeagu & Oji River therefore have had to drive through the rigorous route of Milikin Hill/Ngwo to 9th Mile junction to approach their destination.

“The numerous speed bumps placed at the Millikin Hill/Ngwo to 9th Mile road has further made this route prone to heavy traffic which will obviously get worse during the forthcoming Yuletide.

“Gov. Ugwuanyi, true to his pro-active and pragmatic leadership style and working in tandem with one of our finest National Assembly Members, Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu, had invited R.C.C.(the Construction Company awarded the said contract) and extracted an understanding that one lane of the Expressway be made accessible and motorable for the people to use during this years Yuletide.

“These steps will be significant to the people in two way;

“Firstly, it will ease the stress of movement. As people will no longer be stuck in traffic along the ever busy Ngwo axis.

“Secondly, lives and properties will be better secured as a good road offers a high level of protection from accidents, vehicle damage and will put an end to criminal activities within and around the said road.

“Recall that this administration had completed numerous Federal Government projects in which the Federal Government are yet to reimburse the state.

Some of these projects are;

– Nkalagu/Eheamufu road
– New Market to Agu Abor fly over
– Opi Junction to Ubollo Afor
– Oji River up to Awka
– New Market, Milikin Hill to Ekochin Junction
Among others.

“While we appreciate His Excellency for this timely intervention, we plead for a continuous follow up to ensure that the needful is not just done but standardly completed.

“We also thank the ever present Commissioner for works for his worthy service even as we urge that he follow up with both the Federal ministry and the Contractors to ensure that in or out of the Yuletide the project is fully completed for the use & enjoyment of our people.

“Thank you your Excellency for always being there for your people.”
