The National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP, Ebere Amaraizu

The National Coordinator, Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices(POCACOV), CSP Ebere Amaraizu has revealed that the upcoming Ogun State POCACOV Summit and launch on November 24, in Ogun State will not only help in reducing the incidences of cultism and other vices as well as youth involvement in violent activities within the state and its environs and Nigeria at large, but will also aid in re-establishing, re-invigorating police stakeholders partnership to work for the realization of achieving the overall goal of safe school and community.

Amaraizu added that the summit will also help members of the public recognize always that the power of the police to fulfill their functions and duties is dependent on public approval of police existence, activities and behaviours and to help maintain all times a relationship with the public that gives reality to historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police which is a cardinal ingredients in the community oriented policing tenets.

He noted that the summit will be launched by the Inspector General Of Police, IGP Abubakar Adamu with the theme “Cultism And Other Vices: A Growing Menace And Destructive Element To Socio Economic Development In Nigeria.”

The POCACOV summit/launch will create a platform of understanding and trust between members of the community and the police thus encouraging the building of robust partnership that will help to address deliquencies that threatens our communal values.

He made the revelation to newsmen at the IGP M.A Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre Enugu yesterday while reacting on the essence of the POCAOV summit/launch in Ogun State.

“POCACOV as a new approach by the Nigeria Police Force in combating Cultism and other vices and a community driven programme structured in line with the tenets of the community oriented policing to involve different stakeholders whose supports are galvanized to aid in getting to the crime associated with cultism and other vices.

“The POCACOV Summit and Launch in Ogun State will bring about the existence of POCACOV Volunteer Club(PVC) for Safer School and Safer Community as well as POCACOV Community Peace Building in line with the realization of Goal 16(Peace, Justice and Strong Institution) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he said.

POCACOV is a community driven program of the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu aimed at saving Nigerian children and youths from the claws of cultism, substance/drug abuse, thuggery and Violence, sexual and gender-based violence and other vices through advocacy, awareness creation and sensitizations, reorientation, mentoring and through stakeholders participation at all levels.

The programme was nationally flagged of in Enugu by the IGP on 29/8/2019 and also nationally launched in Abuja for nationwide implementations on 12/3/2020.
