•Commends Enugu govt on youth empowerment, vocational training
The need for stakeholders to rise up to the occassion of helping to raise the awareness for support to be galvanized for youth value reorientation, engagement and strategic leadership direction for a safe, secured and better society has been advocated.
The advocacy was made by the National Coordinator Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices(POCACOV), CSP Ebere Amaraizu, yesterday at the IGP M.A Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre in Enugu while reacting on the essence of the POCACOV/GOFEC Coal City Neighbourhood football league season (BOLU OGBE) which is for youth value reorientation, engagement and strategic leadership direction.
According to Amaraizu, “youth value reorientation will help to understand those value system that promotes, unity, good morals and virtues as well as discipline which enables them to be more patriotic, hard working with the spirit of self reliance and do it yourself.”
He further pointed out that “youth engagement and strategic leadership direction is all about engaging youths on skill acquisition/entrepreneur skills will help a lot as one adage has it that it is better to teach them how to catch fish than giving them fish. This will enable them to be self-reliant and be employers of labour.
“Skill acquisition/entrepreneural skill will make youth self-reliant and employers of labour as well as strategic leaders beyond school certificate acquisition. They need skills and empowerment to take it to the greater height and sustenance.”
Amaraizu, however, commended the Enugu state government youth free vocational training, entrepreneural skill and empowerment which is ongoing and in which no fewer than 240 youths have passed out with their start up materials worth millions of naira and with the second badge of the programme still on course.
The programme embarked upon by the state government is tailored towards enhancement of the actualization of the self independence, youth value reorientation and engagement as well as strategic leadership direction as they journey through their chosen areas of skills specializations. In this, one trained person can employ and help to empower no fewer than five in various skills.
The National Coordinator of POCACOV further commended the state government for also setting up an ongoing youth programme captioned ‘Enugu Youth Rescue Project’ which is designed for the collection of data of unemployed youths and artisans with a view to providing strategic leadership direction, value reorientation and engagement for national security and development.
POCACOV is the initiative of the Nigeria Police Force under IGP M.A Adamu aimed at saving Nigerian children and youths from the claws of cultism, substance/drug abuse, sexual and gender-vased violence, thuggery and violence and other vices.
It is a community driven and oriented programme in line with the tenets of community oriented policing. It is a community oriented programme involving different stakeholders and galvanizing their support to help provide alternatives through value reorientation, engagement and strategic leadership direction for a safe, secured and peaceful society.
