The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) has described as unfortunate the circumstances surrounding the death of the president of the Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps, Amb. Ogwu-Chinuwa Austyne Emuamaka in Delta state by yet-to-be identified gunmen in Kwame, Ndokwa West Local Government Area.
It was gathered that he had attended a meeting in the house of a kinsman and a political stalwart in the state and was allegedly attacked and shot at close range as he was about driving out.
The Anti-cult personnel who was also the POCACOV lead Ambassador in the state was reportedly rushed to Donak Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Expressing his condolence to the entire Anti-cult volunteer corps group, POCACOV stakeholders and ambassadors, the Delta state Command and the family and relations of the deceased, POCACOV National Coordinator, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, described the entire circumstance as shocking, painful and unfortunate.
He expressed confidence that the Nigeria Police Force will surely get to the root of the matter with a view to unmasking those behind the alleged gruesome murder of Astyne.
“It is sad, painful that Austyne had to die in his hometown and through a meeting which is possibly to initiate community peace building.
“While alive, he organized series of meetings, door-to-door campaign against cultism and other vices in Delta state and its environs with Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps members in partnership with POCACOV and the state Orientation Bureau.
“Before his alleged gruesome murder, he was also involved in zonal Anti-cultism door campaign, mobilizing all to join hands in the campaign for a safer society. His campaign activities has led to several renunciation and submission of weapons within some communities in Delta state and its environs.
“We are going to miss his energetic and tactical contributions in this struggle to emancipate Nigerian children and youths from the campaign against this global pandemic of cultism and other vices.
“We shall continue to pray for the family and relations and his aged mother and assured that his gruesome murder will not slow the struggle but is to serve as a platform of reawakening the consciousness of all and sundry on the dangers of cultism and other vices as a global pandemic.
“Members of the community in Nigeria are to join hands with the Nigeria Police Force through POCACOV in this struggle for emancipation of our children and youths,” Amaraizu stated.
