The National Coordinator Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices(POCACOV) CSP Ebere Amaraizu, has revealed that the IGP M.A Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre Enugu has developed a module to mitigate teenage involvement in cultism and other vices.
Amaraizu made the revelation today, at the IGP M.A Adamu POCACOV Resource Centre Enugu on what POCACOV is doing to curb teenage cultism in the country.
According to him, “the module has brought about the framework on POCACOV fan clubs for schools and communities which will help to allocate awareness and sensitizations responsibilities in schools and communities and make them to participate and also understand the dangers of cultism and other vices and the need to shun it.It will also help to deepen the POCACOV message of Say No To Cultism And Other Vices And Be A Champion.
“Most teenagers think that belonging to cult group is a culture and a way of life and for this reason, we must work with different stakeholders to raise the bar in the areas of sensitizations and value reorientation and by so doing, cut the supply chain.
“The POCACOV Fan Club is for safer school and community and targetted at our teenagers because we need to explain the dangers inherent in cultism and other vices better to them and also make them to participate in the process through our POCACOV school and community Fan Clubs.
“The situation is worrisome but POCACOV is not resting on its oars. POCACOV is working with different stakeholders to achieve full scale teenage/youth value reorientation.
“Amongst our stakeholders parents, gurardians, caregivers, government and Non-governmental bodies, Faith-based organizations, community-based groups, ministries, department and agencies amongst others. We need to take responsibilities to ensure that teenagers are well reoriented on the right way to go and the right thing and this bothers on discipline.
“A lot of teenagers join cult group and dangerous gang out of ignorance, peer pressures/Inimidation and inability of the teenager to decode some antics of those that wants to enlist them into the group as well as teenagers belief that it can make them famous, influential and protected.
“POCACOV FAN CLUB will be deeply involved in sensitizations and giving of strategic leadership direction through stakeholders involvement and participation.”
POCACOV is a community driven programme of the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu aimed at saving Nigerian Children and Youths from the Claws of Cultism and Other Vices and involving different stakeholders in line with the tenets of the community oriented policing.
