Worldwide Initiative Against Drug and Suicide (WIASUD), an international intervention organization design to save our students and youth from the claws of drug abuse and suicide, embarked on her outreach programme in schools where they have their first inauguration of WIASUD students’ club at the Government Secondary School (GSS) GRA, Enugu.
During the inauguration ceremony, Enugu state Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi emphasized that his administration will not turn its back on students and youth of the state, especially the depressed people, neither will it encourage drug abuse in the state and its environs.
The governor who spoke through his Special Assistant on Youths, Comr. JohnPaul Ani, encouraged and charged WIASUD organization to go ahead and establish the club in all the secondary schools in the state as he is more concerned in preventing suicide and dissuading drug/substance abuse in the state.
The governor also urged the new councilors selected among the students to be good ambassadors of WIASUD by helping to save lives of their fellow students who may indulge in drug abuse or planning to commit suicide as a result of depression.
On his part, Principal, Government Secondary School, GRA, Mr Ifeanyi Onyia, appreciated the fact that the kick-off of this laudable programme started in his school, promising to ensure that the club inaugurated in his school would continue to wax strong because according to him, “such a live saving club should not be left to operate without adequate supervision.”
He added that: “sometimes even the adult go on depression as a result of day-to-day challenges we face, having a club like WIASUD in this school assured me of hope to continue my work as a principal of the school.”
He also thanked all the dignatries present at the inauguration, especially to the governor for taking time to honour the invitation to witness the inauguration of WIASUD students’ club in his school.
WIASUD General Secretary, Kennedy Okoro stated the objectives of the organization and the detailed functions of the selected councilors among the students in saving lives of their fellow students who might be passing through depression or being lured into drug or substance abuse. He also stated that plans are on ground to give the selected councilors among the students an adequate training to combat this work entrusted to them.
Others who spoke during the inauguration of WIASUD club are Prof. Jude Udenta – Dean of Students Affairs, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Dr. J Chidozie Chukwuokolo – HOD Philosophy & Religion Ebonyi State University, Dr. Nsude Uchennamee Christopher – Staff of National Orthopedic Hospital Enugu state.
The WIASUD organization is led by Comrade Edeh Elijah Chinedu as its pioneer president.
