Remains of the place after the fire

A late night fire that started around 11:30PM on Sunday, 14th February, 2021, have razed down palm kernel processing factories in Enugu.

The affected factories, located at Good shade Palm Kernel oil processing Railway Station near Red Cross Enugu were completely destroyed by the fire whose source is yet unknown.

Speaking to our correspondent, one of the factory owners, Osinachi Udeh while counting their loses said they lost all the machines used in processing the palm kernel as well as raw materials and processed oil.

“We lost all the machines used in the production, ranging from the expeller, processing machine, toasters, generators, filter press Even the our raw materials like Kernel, palm kernels (processed and unprocessed) and our finished products (palm kernel crudes).

“The five affected factories lost over 140 million Naira including the building,” Mr. Udeh said.

The affected factory owners appealed to the government and well mean in meaning individuals to come to their aid as their means of livelihood has been completely destroyed and some of them are left with no other option but to relocate to the village if not assisted.

The affected factories employs over 25 persons directly and several others indirectly.

Journalist101 gathered that the intervention of the men of the fire service saved over 50 factories in the area.
