The National Coordinator Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices(POCACOV), CSP Ebere Amaraizu has stated that the ongoing nationwide community program tagged ‘POCACOV In My Community’ is an activity of POCACOV under POCACOV safer community and security partnership routed into the Crime Management Work Plan and that of the Public Safety and Security Framework of the Nigeria Police Force under IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.
Amaraizu stated this at the IGP M.A Adamu Pocacov Resource Centre Enugu on Wednesday while reacting on the essence of the programme ‘POCACOV In My Community’.
According to him, “the Nigeria Police Force holds members of the community to high esteem this is because you can not separate the public from members of the community owing to the fact that Police are the public and the Public are the police as stated by Robert Peel, the father of modern policing.
“Members of the publics are policing actors partnering with their police for peace, security and safety in the community and which means that at every given time, the Public who are policing actors should rally round their police for improved safety, peace and security and also ensure that Policing Accountability and Service Delivery are strenghtened.
“In this direction, POCACOV in my community is tailored towards inspiring and strenghtening communal ties with a view to addressing those vexing issues, challenges or worries that constantly threaten our communal values.
“POCACOV In My Community involves broad spectrum of stakeholders as structured in line with the tenets of community oriented policing. We must not fail to understand that any community at war with its police, will remain at war with peace, safety, security and which will inhibit or slow down developmental strides.
“Members of the public should agree and come to terms to the fact that the police are the publics and publics are the police as their relations, brothers, cousins, friends amongst others and work towards ensuring that Policing Accountability and Service Delivery are strenghtened through their support and this is one of the ingredients/elements in the community oriented policing tenets.
“POCACOV In My Community, inspiring community peace, safety and security for Sustainable Cities and communities in line with goal (11) of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs). Is POCACOV in your community?”
