The Anglican Bishop of Enugu and Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Emmanuel Olisa Chukwuma has expressed disappointment over the handling of affairs of the Igbos by the current administration at the centre.
The cleric who was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 32nd Enugu International Trade fair said the state of the premises of fair is a pointer that the region doesn’t matter to President Buhari-led administration.
He wondered why an administration that could spend as much as 4 billion Naira to settle killer bandits can’t spend a little money to make the permanent site of Enugu International trade fair a better place.
“We are not happy! We are angry.
“Unlike what we have in Lagos and Kaduna, Enugu’s fair complex is in a bad shape. This is part of the marginalisation we are talking about.
“The federal government should do something about the centre before the end of next year.”
The Archbishop also berated the South East Governors for neglecting the place asking them to make it suit their standard if that’s the reason for their absence at the fair.
“If this place isn’t conducive enough for them, they should make it conducive enough for them to attend.”
He expressed satisfaction with the organizers of the fair as they organised the fair without any help from the government.
“I’m impressed with the efforts because there’s no government support and they are able to pull this off. We are calling on government support and the elevation of this centre.”
He also said that the pandemic affected the fair and “hope that after the pandemic, things will improve.”
He advised the government to reduce taxation so as to allow businesses to flourish in the country.
The 32nd Enugu international trade fair ended on March 29th, 2021
