As the permutations, calculations and political players continue to prepare for election in 2023, the Senator representing Enugu North (Nsukka) Senatorial Zone Chukwuka Utazi has said that their zone, still have the opportunity of producing the next Governor of Enugu State after the tenure of Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who’s also from the same zone.
Sen. Utazi who said this at at the grand finale of the tour of Odimma Nsukka held at Obollo-Eke, the country home of Hon. Solomon Onah, the Mayor of Udenu Council area on Thursday, 1st April, 2021, maintained that the zone have expectations and these expectations can’t be met within 8 years of the administration of Ugwuanyi.
“… We have expectations and our expectations is in the future. According to our brother, Ifeanyi Ossai, he said the expectations are too much and they can’t be fulfilled within under 8 years. And we know we have another 8 years from 2023.
“So, if we couldn’t fulfill all the things now, we still have opportunity for another 8 years.”
He emphasised that this political decision is a “serious business” and also said that their fight for 2023 isn’t led by Governor Ugwuanyi but by the people of the zone in general.
Justifying why the governorship seat should be retained by an Nsukka indigene after 2023, the Nkpologwu, Uzo Uwani born politician said the state has two zone and the other zones have occupied the lion building for 16 years hence, Nsukka zone should be allowed to complete their own 16 after Ugwuanyi.
“We have two zone; Enugu and Nsukka zones. It has been like that, it wasn’t designed by us and Enugu zone have governed for 16 years and we must go for another 8 years for it to be complete.”
Exonerating Ugwuanyi from the plan, Sen. Utazi said they will approach the Governor with their plan and “plead with him to support us and make him see reasons it should be so. It’s our duty to go and beg him as he’s not part of this and he will hear us out as his brothers.”
He warned that it has come to a point where friendship has to be defined and any friendship that will compromise the interest of the zone should be trashed and let them move with one voice as they have to be “courageous and single minded about their demand.”
He enjoined the people of the zone to rally round their brother, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to ensure that he finishes and finish well and called on them to ensure that the peace the gathering has foisted by the meeting last forever despite their political divide.
