The Member representing Ezeagu constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Barr. Chima Obieze has said that the level of insecurity in the country requires a national discuss on our continuous existence as a nation.
The Chairman House Committee on Works and Urban Development in a statement made available to Journalist101 said Nigeria has to “stop the deceit” as Nigeria needs to “come back to the drawing board and renegotiate their togetherness.” Stressing that: “Anything short of this amounts to deception.”
He also expressed sadness over the wanton killings going in Nigeria and prayed for the souls of those that have lost their lives to the insecurity in the country to rest in peace.
The statement reads:
“We have gotten to the point in Nigeria, when we have to return to the drawing board and discuss the terms of our continued existence as one Country/Nation or seek better way(s) to have peace.
“Ideally, we are supposed to be stronger together. United, we can challenge and tackle whatever issue that comes our way.
“But sad as it may sound, events of each day supports the fact that we are not united. We have become a nation where every ethnic group dreads the other. What is then the need to for us to continue to pretend that we are a nation “bound in freedom, peace and unity”.
“Let us stop the deceit; the peoples of Nigeria need to come back to the drawing board and renegotiate their togetherness. Anything short of this amounts to deception. Its folly to continue to pretend that this nation is working.
“The divisiveness is sharp. The tribal and ethnic inclinations and sentiments are overwhelmingly deep.
“It has gradually become difficult if not impossible for my friend in Katsina to freely visit me in Enugu and share some nice time with me. Or for me to visit a friend in Kano with my full Igbo identity and expect not to be in danger.
“We must redefine this nation…period. Even if this is a “for better for worse” marriage, couples go for counselling & then decide if they will continue to live together or go their separate ways.
“If the price of Nationhood is regular bloodletting, then, our continued existence as a nation should be questioned because for you to have a nation, you must have living citizens, not corpses.
“May the souls of those whose lives were cut short in all parts of the country and the souls of other faithfuls departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”
