The Enugu Correctional Centre says they have beefed up security around the centre as the level of attacks on security outfits increases across the country.
The spokesman for the centre, Mr. Emeka Monday said they are leaving nothing to chance as the centre wouldn’t want any attempt to break into the facility leading to a jail break.
In the early hours of Monday, 5th April, unknown gunmen attacked the Correctional Centre in Owerri, the Imo state cavity and the attack led to the freeing of over 1,500 inmates.
In a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, Mr. Emeka said the measure became necessary, following Monday’s attack on the police headquarters and Correctional Centre in Owerri, the Imo capital.
According to him, the centre is working with other sister security agencies to provide maximum security around the Enugu correctional centre.
“We are aware of what happened in Imo and have put certain measures in place to ensure that such an ugly incident does not happen here.
“We are on alert and will resist any jailbreak attempt. For now, the centre is secured and safe,” Monday said.
