The Hon member representing Ezeagu constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chima Obieze has said that he won’t support any guber candidate that wants to thwart the Zoning of the Governorship Position in Enugu State.
The 2-term Lawmaker stated this during the monthly meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP held at Ezeagu LGA headquarters on Saturday, 10th April, 2021 and called on all party faithful to continue to look up to the Governor Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for political direction and Leadership.
Obieze who is the House Committee Chairman on Works Housing and Urban Development said he will always stand on the truth as a believer in the Almighty God and will always say the truth because he was raised with fear of God and to pursue truth and fairness
He maintained that its the turn of the People of Enugu East Senatorial zone to produce the Governor of the State and they will look up to the Governor to name a competent and credible candidate after due consultation of all the stakeholders, stressing that he’s a product of zoning.
“First, I want you all to know that I am a child of God, I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and personal Saviour and I believe in His Teachings. I say my truth whenever I have to. Even my biological father who raised me, I disagree with him on principle. I say Dad, this particular thing you want to do is not fair, right or just. Please don’t do it but if you decide to do it, I will not stand with you.”
“At my age, I believe I should have an opinion about issues that affects me and my people and I must not conform with anybody’s will if it does not agree with good conscience and sound reasoning. I decided to speak today so that the people I speak for at the House will understand where we stand and why we have to stand there.
“I am a product of Zoning, I went to House of Assembly because Rt. Hon Paul Anikwe had gone from Ezeagu South and Hon Cecilia Ezeilo had gone for Ezeagu Central and I was on ground to take the slot for Ezeagu North when Hon Ezeilo was nominated to deputise our Governor.
He also stated that zoning fosters peace and protects the weak and minority against the strong and majority.
“The gains of zoning in fostering peace, unity and progress can never be over-emphasized.
“Zoning is good in a society like ours that is highly polarised and sentimental. It helps to protect the minority against the majority, ensuring that the people from the different Senatorial zones; big or small, minority or majority, gets a fair share in the sharing and distribution of political power.
“This concept has worked so well for the people of Enugu state. Taming down desperation, violence and ill feelings. It has also led to peace, harmony and understanding among the different zones of Enugu State.
“I therefore urge you to disregard those who come to social media to raise baseless arguments against zoning and anyone who makes case for candidates who are not from the zone we all know should produce the next Governor.
“Any aspirant for Governor from any other zone other than Enugu East senatorial zone, irrespective of how qualified or marketable they may be, should bury such ambition as that will not work because we aren’t yet ripe for a free-for-all fight for power.
“It is in the interest of the people of Ezeagu and indeed Enugu West that the zoning and rotation be maintained. We know how the votes in Enugu State are returned. We know the zones that have majority votes and those that have far less. Should we jettison this peaceful arrangement, who knows, a particular zone can produce governors back to back for decades.
There are very credible candidates in Enugu East Senatorial zone. Many qualified, competent, enterprising and experienced candidates. Our Leaders and political players should find good candidates from there and present to the people.
For now it is not our turn in Enugu West. It was Enugu East under Chimaroke Nnamani, Enugu West under Sullivan Chime and Enugu North under Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Now we are done with the first phase we will go back to Enugu East. Whether written or unwritten, discussed or not; it works for us in Enugu and should be allowed to thrive.
At the appropriate time, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi will consult other stakeholders and let us know who the next Governor will be and I, Rt. Hon. Chima Obieze with all my followers, loyalists, foot soldiers and constituents will support that candidate until he emerges Governor.”
