The Department of State Services (DSS) in Imo state have disclosed that members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) have acquired bombs and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to launch further attacks on government institutions in the state.

DSS said information made available to them revealed that IPOB were bringing in the explosive devices into the state from Lagos via a concealed truck.

According to a classified letter dated April 26, 2021 and addressed to the Brigade Commander, 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Owerri, DSS noted that from their intelligence gathering, “the newly acquired items are currently being conveyed from Lagos to an unconfirmed location in Orlu LGA.”

Alerting security operatives to be wary of any truck or vehicle passing through the checkpoints, the secret service said “the items are being concealed in articulated/heavy duty vehicles to beat security checks along the road,” adding that IPOB intends to “deploy the explosives in their planned attacks on security and government installations across the state.”

“In view, it is advised that security personnel deployed to checkpoints be advised to conduct thorough search on vehicles with emphasis on such vehicles, so as to intercept the movement of the items. In addition, thorough checks on vehicles coming into security premises is advised,” DSS cautioned.
