The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, yesterday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, thoroughly investigate the new wave of criminalities and violence in South East.

The elite Igbo group, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Chief Chiedozie Ogbonnia, condemned the killings that took place at Igbariam in Anambra State.

It stressed that in the recent past, there had been spate of violent attacks on some institutions in South East, including the correctional centre, state police headquarters and the country home of Imo State governor.

The group also noted the attack on the Federal High Court, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, followed by an attack on the Fulani community at Igbariam in Anambra State, involving gruesome murder of innocent civilians.

It said these attacks were clinically conducted by the perpetrators and, to that extent, do not bear the usual and known signature of local operators.

It, therefore, urged security agencies to trace the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to book, as such dastardly acts are not in Igbo character.

“Ohanaeze reviewed the incident of criminalities that have occurred in South East in the recent past and concluded that going by the sophistication and capacity of the perpetrators, some powerful elements or groups could be deliberately orchestrating violence to justify pre-planned and pre-determined invasion of South-East.

“Ohanaeze, therefore, requests the Federal Government to investigate seriously the nature and sophistication of the crimes in South East in the interest of all,” the statement stated.
