The residents of Aguowo Premier Layout, Ogui Nike, Enugu State, can now heave a sigh of relief as the perennial road problem facing the area will soon be a tale of the past.
The council Chairman of Enugu North local government, Hon. Emeka Onunze popularly known as Tata has shown serious commitment and seriousness in constructing the over 1Km roads in Premier Layout, Enugu.
The concrete drainage being constructed on the road is over 30% completed and the City Mayor said he’s administration is committed to completing the project to ameliorate the sufferings of the people residing in the area.goWhen our correspondent visited the area, the people expressed joy that after a long time of neglect, the road is receiving the needed attention which according to some of them, is long overdue.
A business owner in the area that identified himself as Okechukwu said the bad shape of the road is really telling on them and during the rainy season, they hardly make any sales as people forget about their existence completely.
“This road road you are seeing here has caused us a lot of pain, I’m happy that a government is coming to fix the road because as we are entering the rainy season, our business is seriously affected. People try to avoid this road because it becomes difficult to access and this also scare away our customers.
“In the past, a lot of promises have been made to fix the road, yet, nothing was done. Though I’m skeptical but the current chairman has shown that he wants to do this road for us and we’re praying to God that the project is completed,” he said.
Also speaking to Journalist101, a landlord in the area, Mr. Nnam David said the state of the road has greatly affected the value of their properties and they’re not happy about it. He lamented that one of his properties wasn’t occupied for almost one year because people run away from the place because of the road.
“If Tata can help us and construct this road, he will be giving life to people like me. Our properties here are wasting because of the road.”
He also thanked the Governor for giving a young person like Hon. Onunze the opportunity to lead and said his style of leadership is different from others.
“You can see why we are advocating for young persons to be given opportunity to occupy leadership positions, Tata is showing capacity and I will mobilize other landlords to go to his Excellency and beg him to allow him go for a second tenure if he (Tata) continues like this.
When completed, the roads; Anibueze and Igwe Augustine Nnamani Streets will connect the anti cult office and Ede road leading to independence layout phase II respectively.
