The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the incident of razing of the divisional police station, magistrate and high courts in Atta council area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Bala Elkana made the confirmation via a terse statement disclosing that it received a distress call on the incidents
Unknown gunmen on Saturday burnt down Atta Divisional Police Headquarters in Njaba local government area of Imo State.
The hoodlums also razed the Atta High Court and torched the Health Centre in the community.
Eyewitness account stated that the hoodlums arrived in the early hours of Saturday, shooting sporadically before destroying the facilities in the community.
According to Elkana: “On May 29 some hoodlums mobilised in large number, stormed the premises of High/Magistrate Court Attah and set it on fire. They also damaged a building that was constructed by the community intended to be used as a police station in Attah, Njaba Local Government Area.”
He said that the Imo Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, has ordered a full investigation into the incident and directed that no stone should be left unturned until the perpetrators of such heinous crime are apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.
