There was tension in Ohafia, Abia state, yesterday, as unknown gunmen, attacked and killed unidentified number of soldiers stationed at a military checkpoint, a source has disclosed.

It noted that the remaining soldiers at the checkpoints ran away in a bid to save their lives.

Following the incident, soldiers the infuriated military men after getting reinforcement went on rampage and restricted movement in the affected area.

In what appears to be a revenge mission, “this morning, soldiers reinforced from the barrack and stormed Ohafia town, beating up youths and doing massive arrests,” the source further said.

It added that, “meanwhile, the unknown gunmen has already disappeared into thin air while the innocent unarmed masses are now suffering the menace.

“Okada people has ran away, shops closed down, soldiers everywhere. There’s tension in Ohafia currently. Army also passed order of no movements at all tomorrow.”

Efforts to contact the police spokesman in the state or the council Chairman for comment on the incident failed.
