The Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has assured the people of Enugu East Senatorial zone (Nkanu land) that the choice of who will succeed him will be based on dialogue, justice and equity.
The governor gave the assurance at Michael Okpara Square during the rally by the zone to press home their demand of producing the next Governor of Enugu State in 2023.
The Governor while applauding the political literacy and consciousness of the zone also assured them that the content and context of their speeches were also taken note of.
“I admit with all humility, that I have listened to all the speeches and I salute your uncommon political literacy and consciousness. Rest assured that the content and context of your speeches are noted.
“I’m confident that in the fullness of time, dialogue, justice and equity shall take preeminence. By his grace, I believe that 2023 shall end in praise, just as 2019 ended in praise,” Governor Ugwuanyi concluded.
Earlier speakers at the event took turn to justify their plea that the next Governor comes from their zone.
Speaker of the Enugu State Assembly and convener of the rally, Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi told Governor Ugwuanyi that his predecessors all anointed those that succeeded them, stressing “Your Excellency, your own will not be different.
“In 1999, our father, Distinguished Senator Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwonodo anointed Senator Chimaroke Nnamani to be the Governor of Enugu State. Chimaroke later annointed Sullivan Chime to be the Governor and after his tenure, he anointed you to be the Governor of Enugu State.
“Your Excellency, your own is not going to be different, we are waiting for you to anoint the next Governor of Enugu State from Nkanu land, which comprises of six local government areas. Any soul you pick, we will give you and the person all the needed support.”
Also speaking, chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye called on the Governor and his party; the PDP to zone their party’s ticket to Enugu East Senatorial zone disclosing that his own party- the APC has done same.
“APC has already zoned its governorship ticket to Enugu East,” and “we are here to tell the PDP to also zone the position to Enugu East.”
The APC Chairman told Gov. Ugwuanyi that “the fact that you are here means you are with us, the fact that you are here means that you have agreed to bring the anointed one from Nkanuland come 2023.”
