The Rivers United Football Club, Head Coach, Stanley Eguma that was kidnapped on Tuesday June 15, around 4.00 pm has been released.

Stanley was allegedly abducted on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway on Tuesday, while returning from Gombe to Port Harcourt, after a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game.

Eguma’s release was confirmed by the general manager of the club, Okey Kpalukwu on Friday in a post on the club’s WhatsApp platform

“We are grateful to God for His mercy. Our Technical Manager, Stanley Eguma, has been released by his abductors. Our God is gracious,” he said.

Details of Mr Eguma’s release from his abductors were not disclosed in the post or if any ransom was paid.

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, Mohammed Aliyu, had said that the police would ensure Eguma was freed by his abductors.

Eguma joined the now defunct Dolphins in 2008 and was retained by Rivers United in 2017 after the government merged Sharks and Dolphins football clubs to form a Port Harcourt club, Rivers United.

Eguma has been described as the longest serving coach in the Nigeria Professional Football League
