Mr Mba Idenyi, the aged father the late traditional ruler of Oruku Community, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu who was killed by gunmen on December 26th, 2020 has cried out to the government of Enugu State to come to their aide.
Late Igwe Emmanuel Mba, was assassinated by gunmen suspected to be from an aggrieved section of the same Oruku community in their hall, where he was addressing members of the village.
Speaking to Journalist101 over the week, the father of the late igwe who’s estimated to be over 79 years old cried to the Government to wade into the situation and resolve the protracted communal crisis which unfortunately, has consumed his son.
The septuagenarian revealed that the government hasn’t done anything to arrest the killers of his son and they had to appeal to the police to release his corpse for burial after the investigations weren’t yielding any result.
“My son has already been killed, they can’t raise bring him back to life. I’m only crying for justice because our community hasn’t been the same after his death,” the visibly sobbing grandfather said.
“Our community has been in turmoil, young boys are killing people all over the village. As at today, three corpse are yet to be buried and their corpse are still with the police. If you come to our community now, it’s like a ghost town, people have deserted the place because young men carrying guns can start shooting at any time.”
He commended the security agents (police and army) for their efforts but said that because they aren’t everywhere in the community, these gunmen still operate in some areas.
Continuing, he said “I can’t see any effort to restore peace and we are in a near hopeless situation. Immediately the army left, they started killing people.
“Many houses have been burnt down as a result of this crisis. The government should come and save us because we’re in fire,” he pleaded while sobbing profusely.
