Imo State Police Command has confirmed that 7 persons which includes a policeman and six employees of Nigerian oil and gas services company Lee Engineering were killed during an attack on a project site on Monday.
It was learnt that the oil workers were going to their oil plant in Assa in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State when they were attacked by the gunmen.
An unspecified number of persons, reportedly sustained gunshot wounds.
Imo State Police Command spokesman, Michael Abattam, said the area of the attack has been declared a black spot and all efforts are on ground to arrest the assailants.
“We have declared the place a black spot and all efforts to arrest perpetrators are ongoing.
“The command has put in measures to guard the workers in the area since it is prone to attack.”
The Lee Engineering website says the company has a project there involving the installation and construction of a gas primary treatment facility and the supply of a gas turbine generators and a waste heat recovery system.
