The Enugu State Government has successfully evacuated students of the University of Jos, UNIJOS, from the state (Enugu) following the breakout of crisis in the state which has resulted to the shutting down of the institution.

The returning students were received at the popular celebrities fast food premises around 9:40pm.

Journalist101 recalls that on Friday, the Governor, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi gave a marching order that the students be evacuated from the school.

Receiving the students on behalf of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Hon. Chidi Ilogebe, the Special Adviser to Governor on Student Affairs, thanked God for their safe return and assured them that their safety remains a priority to the government.

Ilogebe told them that the information about the killings in Jos necessitated the action of the Governor and expressed joy that nobody from the state was killed as a result of the crisis.

In a chat with JOURNALIST101 after the return of the students,Ilogebe said that 135 Enugu students were evacuated from the school, while 37 returned to Enugu, 28 were sent to Abuja on their (students) request and the remaining were safely taken to there homes within plateau and surrounding locations.

Speaking on behalf of the students, Onah Anthony Chinedu, from Obollo Afor, in Udenu local government area thanked the Governor for coming to their rescue despite their location.

Mr. Onah, a 200l student of History and International studies at UNIJOS said the action of Governor Ugwuanyi spurred other state Governors from South East to send a rescue team to evacuate their people from the school.

“We say a big thank you to the Governor and his SA for their support and immediate action which didn’t just help in evacuating us but it spurred some other states to evacuate their students too. The Association of Enugu state students in Unijos is proud of you for the fatherly role you played.

Also speaking, Nebeokike Olivia, a 300l marketing student said the gesture is still like a movie to her as she couldn’t believe their state came for them.

“We are amazed and couldn’t believe our Governor could come for us in far away Plateau state. Even the indigenes couldn’t believe it when we told them our state is coming for us.
