President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the Lagos State Judicial Panel report on the shooting of #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll gate in October 2020.

The panel report which has been submitted to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday revealed that contrary to the position of the Buhari led Federal Government, many persons were mowed down by the soldiers in that fateful night.

The report, which has since gone viral, indicted Soldiers and Police Officers over the killing of unarmed #EndSARS protesters. Human rights activists, government critics, the international community are among those who have asked the Nigerian government to act on the report of the panel.

Speaking during a meeting with Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, Buhari said the federal government will take up the report after Lagos state has concluded work on it.

“Federal Government will allow the system to exhaust itself, and will, therefore, wait for pronouncements from state governments which set up panels to probe police brutality in the country”

“So many state governments are involved, and have given different terms of reference to the probe panels,” Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, quoted Buhari to have said.

“We at the Federal have to wait for the steps taken by the states, and we have to allow the system to work. We can’t impose ideas on them. Federal Government has to wait for the reaction of the states.”
