The organizers of the Grammy Awards, The Recording Academy, has announced on Wednesday the postponement of the music awards for the year 2022.

In a statement by the organization, the event which was scheduled for January 31 was canceled due to uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 that has ravaged different parts of the world and the United States.

The statement reads in part; “After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show.

“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks”.

The statement further stated that a future date will be announced when the event will hold.
