One of the aspirants wishing to occupy Enugu Lion Building come 2023, Hon. Ofor Chukwuegbo on Friday, 4th February, 2022 visited former Governor of Old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo to inform him about his intention to seek for the highest office in the state.
Hon Chukwuegbo who represents Enugu North and South in the House of Representatives said he was at the Amaechi Awkunanaw home of the Elderstateman to seek his blessings in the forthcoming election as he seek to be the next Governor of the state after Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
“We’re here today to see the Father of politics in Enugu State. Our visit here today is to see him as our father and our senior. The people you see here with us are the leadership of Greater Amaechi which is made up of Amaechi Uno, Amaechi Awkunanaw and Amaechi Uwani,” Chiene I. Chiene, the Director-General of the lawmaker’s campaign organisation, told newsmen after their closed-door meeting.
“We’ve come to see our father; a trailblazer and light bearer to intimate him of the ambition of Rt. Hon. Offor Chukwuegbo to be the Governor of Enugu State, come May 2023. We also came to seek his blessings and prayers,” he added.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, Senator Jim Nwobodo said: “By my position, I should see anyone that wants to see me but my position remains the same and hasn’t changed. That position is that I prefer Nkanu East to produce the next governor going by the level of underdevelopment in the area.”
Asked if he gave the lawmaker his blessing, Senator Nwobodo maintained that “as an elder, if anyone wants to go for a political position, I oblige the person because I don’t have the right to say no to the fellow because my no won’t make the person change his/her mind. I can’t deny him because it’s his inalienable right to aspire for any position.
“However, I made it clear that I can’t go back to my vomit and I’m not going to change my position.”
