Contrary to the information in some sections of the media that the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC In Enugu State won’t be part of the forthcoming council elections in the state, available information suggests that the party fielded candidates for the contest.
In a letter written to the party by the Chairman of Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, Chief Michael Ajogwu, the electoral umpire gave a breakdown of the list of the candidates of APC eligible for the election.
Recall that Barr Ugochukwu Agballa who was given a certificate of return by the national Leadership of the Party but yet to be inaugurated had on Friday, threatened to use court cases to nullify the February 23rd Local Government election in the state, with claims that, genuine members of the party, were disqualified by ENSIEC.
But in a letter dated February 18th, Chief Ajogwu, SAN, told APC: “I forward to you Form ENSIEC 3 and form ENSIEC 4 containing the final list of your candidate for the election for your attention and necessary action.”
According to the report sighted by our correspondent, 5 persons were cleared for the position of chairman in the election while 70 persons met the requirements for coucillorship election.
Our investigation further revealed that for Chairmanship position, some of the candidates were disqualified for the following reasons:
A. Failure to return ENSIEC forms 1, 7, and or 10
B. Failure to have up to 20 nominators.
C. Failure of Deputies to return forms 1, 7 and or 10.
D. Not having Deputies.
E. No court affidavit
For Councillorship position, some of the candidates were disqualified for the following reasons:
A Candidate’s failure to return ENSIEC forms 1,7 and or 10.
B.Failure to swear court affidavit
C. Failure to have up to 10 nominators.
