Worried by the violent incident that took place at Abia ward, Udi local government area of Enugu State, ahead of the council poll slated for February 23rd, Agbaja Youths General Assembly, AYGA, has called for calm.

On Saturday, 19th February, thugs took over the venue of the campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which led to the destruction of chairs and other materials.

Condemning the sad incident, AYGA in a terse statement signed by her president, Comr. Ebube Nebo, said such action isn’t welcomed in the area while cautioning the youths to be mindful of being used as political thugs.

Nebo said that the Governor of the state, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has enthroned peace in the state and urged all political parties in the state to tow the part of peace.

“We, the entire members of AGBAJA YOUTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY, condemn the incident that took place at Abia ward during the PDP local government chairmanship campaign tour. We wish to call the major actors in that incident to order.

“Our Youths should be properly guided not to be used as a harbinger of violence because they are always the casualty of its out come.

“We want to state categorically that His Excellency, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has enthroned peace in the state to the benefit of Ndi Enugu and as such, we plead with the leadership of PDP to please help in the best way to enable Agbaja remain peaceful. The political party belong to the people and not the people belonging to the party. We further wish to notify those who are behind the unrest that no one is more Agbaja than the other,

“However, we humbly call on the proprietor of Enugu State institute of peace for governance, EZEUDO GBURUGBURU to please use his miraculous wisdom and look into the matter to enable our people feel secured to come out freely on Wednesday 23rd and exercise their civic right.

“We urge the Youth of AGBAJA land to remain law abiding and never to allow anyone use them in this critical time.”
