Men of Enugu State Police Command on Wednesday evening, neutralized over three of the gunmen that attacked a polling unit earlier in the day as voting was going on in the States local government Polls.
At least three of the hoodlums believed to have participated in the attack on two polling units in Akpugo have been shot dead by police.
A reliable source confided in that Police killed the hoodlums at akpugo in Nkanu West Local Government Area when they were confronted.
Our source confirmed that the police confronted the escaping hoodlums and demobilized a Hyundai Vehicle with which they operated.
Gunmen had attacked a polling unit at Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area killing skills and denting vehicles ablaze.
But a police source who spoke to our correspondent said the action didn’t go on without a challenge as the CP quickly mobilized his men to the location to track and engage the bloodthirsty hoodlums.
“The men deployed to the area gave the ragtag gunmen a hot chase and the had to bow to the superior firepower of our men,” the source said.
The top police source who doesn’t want his name in print continued: “I can confirm that they suffered a lot of fatalities while others escaped with bullet injuries. We aren’t going to allow these attacks to go on.”
JOURNALIST101 learnt that the surrounding bushes are been combed by joint security operatives and local security personnel.
Enugu State today conducted it’s Local Government elections across the 17 Council Areas and 260 wards of the State.
The exercise was generally peaceful apart from the Akpugo gunmen attack and witnessed a huge turnout of voters.
