The governorship declaration of a 2-term Senator, Prince Gil Nnaji has sent a wrong signal to political observers as the political gathering was everything but a political event.
The event which many pundits predicted will attract all the political cream de la creme in Enugu East Senatorial Zone ended up as a cultural carnival with so many cultural troops on display.
The outing was so embarrassing that Prince Cornelius Nnaji, Member representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in the 9th NASS and the younger brother of the former Senator was absent at the event.
A Politician in the area who gave his name as Patrick Nnamene said “this is so shameful!
“I couldn’t believe what happened here today, we all came out thinking that we will have a political fanfare. How do you explain the crass of people at this event?” he asked.
He went on to say that “even his own blood brother was absent, what about the speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly: Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi, who’s from the neighbouring Umuchigbo community didn’t attend. We were expecting to see even the party leaders in the zone at this event.
“For a former Local government chairman, 2-term Member of both the House of Representatives and Senate, we are so embarrassed that even councillors were absent in this function. All we were seeing were spent political forces which is an indication that this ambition is dead on arrival.”
Speaking to his villagers and the various dance groups that gathered at his Father’s Palace in what he termed “Consultative meeting”, the former lawmaker said “God has ordained me to be the next Governor of Enugu State and I’m the best person for the job.”
He went on to say that his declaration is in response to the clamour by his people for him to step in and go for them and his peaceful disposition is in tandem with the modus operandi of the incumbent, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
He called on many sons and daughters of Nike to step into the ring adding that they will achieve their goal when they move in great number for theirs strength in unity.
