Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. Dave Umahi  and his deputy have withdrawn their motion for stay of execution filed over their sacking by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

Mr Umahi was last week sacked alongside his deputy Eric Kelechi Igwe and fifteen state lawmakers for dumping the platform with which they were elected; Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The decampees defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The governor who has appealed against the verdict of the lower court also filed stay of execution motion to remain in office pending the determination of the Appeal Court.

Withdrawing the motion on Wednesday, his counsel, Chukwuma Ma-Chukwu Ume (SAN) said it was because of mistakes, particularly in the spelling of the governor’s name.

When the case was called, Ume informed the court that he had withdrawn the earlier motion to replace it with a new one.

The counsel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) James Onoja, also informed the court of their intention to respond to the new motion on stay of execution filed by the governor and his deputy.

Justice Ekwo adjourned the matter until March 21 to enable the respondents to file a counter to the application for stay.
