The International Court of Justice (ICJ), has on Wednesday ordered Russia to discontinue its hostilities in Ukraine.

Reading the judgement, “The Russian Federation shall immediately suspend the special military operations it commenced on 24 February 2022,” the court’s president, judge Joan E. Donoghue, said.

The judges stated that other forces under the control of Russia or supported by Moscow must cease the military operation.

Reacting to the court’s judgement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described it as a major victory against Russia.

“Ukraine gained a complete victory in its case against Russia at the International Court of Justice. The ICJ ordered to immediately stop the invasion. The order is binding under international law. Russia must comply immediately. Ignoring the order will isolate Russia even further.”

Russia on the other hand has rejected the order from the court.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a statement that; “We cannot pay any heed to this ruling,” Interfax news agency reports.

“At the International Court of Justice there is the concept of agreement between the parties.

“ There can be no agreement here,” Peskov says.
