Speaker, House of Reps, Femi Gbajabiamila

The House of Representatives has disclosed that it will appeal the judgement of the Umuahia Federal High Court that ordered, Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation, to delete section 84(12) from the electoral act amendment bill recently signed into law.

This is after the house deliberated on the court order during Wednesday’s plenary in the green chambers of the National Assembly in Abuja.

The lawmakers criticized the Judgement stating that the judiciary and the executive are trying to usurp the powers of the legislature.

They stated that only the parliament and not a presidential appointee can amend the law.

The Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, expressed disappointment that he got to know about the matter on the media stressing that the House was not served any notice, since it was not a party to the suit.

The speaker furtherappealed to the Malami not to hastily implement the court judgement, and not to get into the legitimate functions of the National Assembly.
