A train heading to Kaduna from Abuja has been attacked by terrorists on Monday night, DAILY NIGERIAN reports.
According to the newspaper, the terrorists detonated bombs on the railtrack of the train and successfully immobilised it between Katari and Rijana.
One of the passengers who confirmed the incident in a telephone call with the news platform said the attackers have surrounded the train, shooting sporadically.
“All the passengers are currently lying on the floor of the train. The bandits are shooting sporadically. We are in serious danger,” said on of the panic-stricken passengers.
There are at least 970 passengers onboard the train, according to official sources familiar with the train service.
Also confirming the incident, Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, said villagers around the area claim the train is under attack.
“Villagers along Abuja-Kaduna road called to confirm hearing multiple gunshots and attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train by terrorists,” he wrote on Twitter.
