Suspected fulani herdsmen has allegedly abducted a former chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Bayelsa, Olusegun Osaho.

The gun men also shot dead a bus driver working with Sunny Eru motor and also kidnapped eighteen passengers in the bus.

The incident happened on Monday, along the East-West road, by Ewreni community, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State as journalists were return from Bayelsa state.

Reports says the gunmen have called the wife of the journalist and they are demanding five million naira as ransom for his release.

A Warri-based legal practitioner, Lucky Egboyi Esq, who narrowly escaped from the scene, confirmed he narrowly escaped as they almost ran into the armed herdsmen who were operating on the road.

He said the herdsmen shot the Sunny Eru driver in the head and kidnapped other passengers.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Okies Veeky described it as , “saddening and appalling”.

He called on the DSS, the Army and the Police to all live up to expectations and do something to end the insecurity in the country.
