The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Sulaiman, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Although there have been speculations about the Speaker’s change of party long before now, Sulaiman officially announced his defection today during a Ramadan Iftar dinner hosted by the Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed.

The event which took place at the Government House in Bauchi on Saturday night, was attended by PDP stakeholders from different Local Government Areas in the state including Ningi, Toro, Warji and Dass local government areas of the State

Addressing the guests at the dinner, Speaker Sulaiman said the exemplary leadership style of Governor Mohammed and his commitment to transform the state made him join the party.

Sulaiman hailed the governor for ensuring a harmonious working relationship with the State Assembly despite party differences.

Reacting, the State PDP chairman, Hamza Koshe Akuyam, said the speaker was one of the prominent politicians that joined the party.

He expressed confidence on the party’s ability to emerge victorious in the forth coming 2023 general elections.

The governor on his side used the opportunity to call on PDP members especially aspirants to shun bitter politics ahead of the forthcoming primary elections in the state.
