A governorship aspirant for the 2023 general election in Enugu State, Engineer Erasmus Anike has commended Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi over his giant strides in Enugu State, saying he will continue from where he stopped if given the opportunity to serve.
This is even as he has declared support for a Consensus Governorship candidate
He stated this yesterday while addressing journalists shortly after a brief meeting with members of the executive of All Enugu Youth for Good Governance {AYGG}
AYGG is the umbrella of all the youth organizations in Enugu State seeking for consensus governorship candidate for the 2023 general election.
Anike, commended Ugwuanyi for the existing peace and unity as well as the infrastructural developments in the state and stressed that Enugu State needed somebody like him to continue from where the governor stopped.
Reacting to prayers for consensus arrangement, the Peoples Democratic Party aspirant described the idea as a good one, saying if at the end, he emerges a consensus candidate, he will be very happy.
He, however, assured that if any other candidate emerges a consensus candidate, he has no option than to support the person.
He appealed to Ugwuanyi to use his office and ensure that somebody from Enugu East senatorial Zone comprising Enugu East and Isi-Uzo, Enugu south and Enugu North, Nkanu west and Nkanu East Local Governments emerges the governor in 2023, adding that the zone has not tasted the juicy position.
Also speaking, president of AYGG , Comrade Onyekachi Ugwu , stated that they are clamouring for a consensus candidate because they do not want a return of insecurity in the state.
He noted that they do not want the peace, unity and progress that Ugwuanyi fought hard to bring in Enugu State to be destroyed.
He noted that the Governor had in his wisdom during the last local government elections, used consensus, noting that the elections were held in peaceful atmosphere.
Also speaking, the Organizing Secretary of the organization, Okonkwo Felix Ugochukwu said they are seeking consensus because they want to make sure that the peace Ugwuanyi brought to Enugu State becomes permanent. He, however, appealed that the youths should be given 50 percent.
The secretary of the organization, Ugonna Nwodo said they are seeking consensus because they want peace and not violence that will lead to the killing of youths in the state.
