…Urges Ebonyi People To Resist Imposition
Fresh Crisis is currently rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ebonyi State following the recent endorsement of the Speaker Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Francis Nwifuru by the State Governor as his successor and sole candidate of the party ahead of the State primaries.
Angered by the endorsement, a Governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress APC, Senator Juluis Ucha yesterday described the endorsement as Unconstitutional, Immoral, illegal, Undemocratic and demonic
Briefing Journalist yesterday in Abakaliki on the political developments in the State, Senator Ucha who represented Ebonyi Central Senator zone said that the endorsement came to other aspirants as a big surprise and shock.
Senator Ucha who is the Pioneer Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly insisted that the action of the Governor is aimed at destroying Democracy in the state adding that the implication is that, the will of the people does not matter anymore in a democracy.
“Endorsement is undemocratic, it is immoral, it is illegal, it is unconstitutional and demonic. What it simply means is that democracy is being destroyed in the state. The will of the people do not matter anymore in a democracy”.
It would be recalled that the state Governor, Chief David Umahi on Friday during the burial of Chief Dandy Igweomoke, father of Mrs. Chioma Nweze, Commissioner for Trade and Investment endorsed the Speaker as his successor and APC candidate for the 2023 governorship election in the state.
Senator Ucha called on the people of the state to resist such attempt by the State Governor, Chief David Umahi adding that with the new electoral act, “how do one market a bad market. You can’t impose what is Undemocratic on a democratic system and expect it to work”.
“People are supposed to vote for one that will govern them and not through imposition. We reject the Imposition and call on the people of Ebonyi State to resist anything that will destroy democracy in the State”.
“Democracy cannot be achieved through endorsement or appointment. The electoral act provides for only 3 condition by which an aspirant can emerge as a candidate. Direct primaries, indirect and consensus”.
“It is obvious that none of the 3 has been done in the state. I call on the voters of APC and the delegates to challenge this by voting wisely on the day of the primaries by showing that they have been taken for granted”.
Senator Ucha further stated that the APC cannot make any headway come 2023 general election should the Governor insist on the endorsement adding that the era of ballot box snatching, thuggry and manipulation of election results are gone.
Similarly, the Chairman Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Chief Elias Mbam yesterday warned against Imposition and unilateral decision on who becomes the Governor of Ebonyi State insisting that such act will spell doom for the All Progressives Party APC.
Chief Mbam who is also a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State called for level playing ground for all the aspirants ahead of the party primaries.
The RMAFC Chairman who made the disclosure while addressing journalist in Abakaliki stated that the unilateral adoption of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ogbonnia Nwaifuru by the State Governor could cause an implosion in the party.
Chief Mbam said, “Governor Umahi’s endorsement and adoption of Nwifuru could cause an implosion in the party and mar its chances of electoral victory in the state in the forthcoming general elections”.
“The Electoral Act, APC’s Constitution, and indeed other extant documents on elections in Nigeria did not make provisions for the imposition of aspirants on any political party”. Ends.
