Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Assembly Screening Committee in Kogi State has disqualified Aminu Abubakar Suleiman and Ubolo Itodo Okpanachi from the Kogi East senatorial race.

It was gathered that the disqualification by the main opposition party followed alleged acts of misconduct by the aspirants.

The result of the screening exercise which took place in Lokoja the state capital revealed that while Victor Adoji and Isaac Alfa were accepted by the committee to proceed with their senatorial ambition, Okpanachi and Suleiman were dropped from the race.

According to DAILY POST, Suleiman’s disqualification came after it was discovered that he is not a registered voter in the senatorial district.

The party said the aspirant is not ineligible to participate in the forthcoming senatorial election, having not voted for anyone in the district.

On the other hand, Okpanachi was also disqualified following his alleged involvement in anti-party activities in the state.

The disqualified aspirants, meanwhile, are said to have indicated an interest to approach the party’s screening appeals committee to seek redress, which, if successful, could provide veritable grounds for litigation against the party in the future.

It was learnt that out of the seven aspirants vying for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat, four, including a former Senator, Ahmed Ogembe, were disqualified.

Similarly, an aspirant to the House of Representatives from the Idah Federal Constituency, Ismail Inah Hussein, was disqualified on the grounds of anti-party activities.
