The Supreme Court of Nigeria has passed a verdict over the disputed 17 oil wells between Rivers and Imo states.

The Judgement brings to an end the political arrangement on the sharing of revenue.

In a verdict by Justice Heleen Ogunwumiju but delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the court held that the oil wells located in territory of Rivers and Imo states belong to Rivers State dismissing the counterclaim put forward by the Imo State Government.

A previous political arrangement put in place by the federal government for sharing of the revenue from the disputed wells  said the revenue will be shared equally between the two states, but when Emeka Ihedioha became governor in 2019, a presidential memo directed that all the revenue should go to Imo.

However, the Rivers state government swiftly filed a suit against the presidential directive.
