Udi South Rebirth, USR; a pressure group in Udi local government area of Enugu State, has written a passionate open letter to the Governor of the state highlighting the gross marginalisation of their development centre, which they described as “20 years of political non-participation,”
In their open letter to Governor Ugwuanyi seen by JOURNALIST101, the youth pressure group called on the Governor to Jettison the selfish narrative been bandied about by some persons that wish to continue to deny them representation at the Enugu State House of Assembly after 20 years.
USR said it amounts to coming to equity with very dirty hands for Ndi Udi to be clamouring for the Senate position of Enugu West Senatorial zone be ceded to them on the premise of zoning, then turn back to say there’s no rotation agreement in their local government.
“It is said, and we believe that he who comes to equity must come with clean hands and on this note, Ndi Udi should practice what they preach for the Governor to take us serious in our Senatorial ambition.
“How can Udi South State Constituency tell the Governor that we don’t have any agreement on zoning of House of Assembly; that it should come from anywhere! Yet Ndi Udi want Senatorial position that has no written agreement?”
USR explained that:
Udi South State Constituency is made up of 2 development centers:
1. Udi Central development center (5 wards).
2. Udi South development center (6 wards).
Udi Central has held unto this position for the past 20 consecutive years.
Asking: “If this is happening in Udi LG, where is our moral justification for asking for Senatorial position? Is there any written agreement on Senatorial position by the entire Enugu West before now?
“Equity, justice and fairness should have come into play in all our decision making as it concerns rotation of our political positions just like our amiable Governor Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi preaches.”
The group maintained that it amounts to violent rape of justice denying Udi South Development Centre the ticket of the PDP adding that doing so negates all arguments of “political tradition”.
“Projecting that there is no sharing formula in Udi South heartlessly and violently rapes the right of Ndi UDI SOUTH DEVELOPMENT CENTRE and violates everything we call the political tradition, norms and culture of Ndi Udi and Enugu at it’s entirety.
“Sending a complete list of all the 13 aspirants back to His Excellency will create an impression that we have no sustainable system for power rotation amongst our development centers and political wards thus exposing our Leadership vacuum.
“We elected all the 20 Ward Councillors, not long ago based on Equity, Justice and fairness anchored on zoning arrangement even without having any form of written agreement. Every ward in Udi can testify to this. Yet we don’t want to apply same to House of Assembly?
“Where are the Elders of Udi South?
1. Zoning favours any Ward from Udi South Development Center because Udi Central has served for the last 20 consecutive years.
2. Equity, Justice and fairness favors any Ward that has never served before in Udi South Development Centre which are Obinagu, Umuabi and Umuaga.
“Your Excellency Sir, what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If Ndi Udi can lay claims to the Senatorial position of Enugu west on the grounds of equitable power rotation, justice and fairness, Ndi UDI SOUTH DEVELOPMENT CENTRE also deserves to lay heavy claims to the House of Assembly position of its Udi South State Constituency since Ndi Udi Central development center has held the same position for the past 20 consecutive years
“In Equity, Justice and Fairness we stand as Enugu State continues to be in the hands of God,” the open letter reads in part.
